Training Magazines' 2006 Solutions Winner "ASPCA" Low-Cost Solutions for Converting PPT to WBT

What does the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), IBM, JP Morgan Chase, Capital One, Xerox, Kaiser Permanente, Healthways, Inc., Reuters Business Division and Capella University have in common? Each is being honored with a Best Practices Award at Training Magazine's Training Solutions Conference and Expo 2006 in Denver Colorado October 23rd.

When the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA, www.aspca.org) was looking for cost effective ways to train officers in safety issues and keep them up to date on the latest animal cruelty statutes, they turned to ASK International for help.

"One of our greatest challenges was figuring out a web-based solution that was affordable, easy to update and supported ASPCA's training team maintenance", states Dr. Eric Parks, President/CEO of ASK International.

After examination of a number of options the ASK/ASPCA team settled on PowerPoint 2003 for course module development, PowerConverter for Flash Conversion and the TeraLearn LCMS for deployment.

Once the team settled on tools the challenge shifted, could we leverage a traditional presentation tool, PowerPoint for highly interactive engaging web-based training? Leveraging PowerPoint's design features, the team was able to create a wide range of innovate learning activities including simulated field interviews, problem oriented field reports, simulated dispatch calls, email response exercises, discovery learning and research exploration. These were coupled with a highly graphical animated treatment including audio narration and full motion video segments taken from ASPCA's popular series Animal Precinct appearing on Animal Planet.

The final program was about 3-hours in length and was tested extensively nationwide. The program rollout occurred in May 2006 targeting the State of Illinois with plans to expand to other states shortly.

Training Magazine's Training Solution Conference Award acknowledges ASPCA's innovative use of PowerPoint for low cost, standards compliant and engaging online training.
