Most instructional designers feel that the most important component of a web-based training program is the instructional design. They feel that the course flow, the chunking of the content and the quality and frequency of learning activities are the most important design elements that enhance learning and in turn performance. As a designer of distance learning products for over 30-years I am a strong advocate that design is the most important element of a successful online course. Seven years ago I learned that there is more to online learning then just design. I was asked to conduct an e-Learning readiness study for one of the world’s largest commercial banks with 24,000 employees in 26 states with over 1,500 retail banking centers. I am preparing a workbook for instructional designers, trainers, subject matter experts and developers interested in implementing PowerPoint for web-based training.
